Coming to Silver Dollar City... Outlaw Run

When fans of Silver Dollar City near Branson, Missouri, speak, the “City” listens. “Our guests told us they wanted a new thrill attraction, and we were determined to create a world-class experience even they couldn’t imagine,” says Brad Thomas, senior vice president, Silver Dollar City Attractions. “We pushed to take the classic wood coaster to a place it’s never been before by applying modern technology and techniques to traditional wood coaster building methods. The result is a wood coaster with never-done-before thrill elements.”

Roller coaster enthusiasts will, no doubt, stand in line for Outlaw Run’s debut in Spring 2013.  Silver Dollar City’s biggest investment in a single ride in the past decade, the new $10 million attraction sends passengers soaring through the Ozark Mountains on a ground-breaking wood coaster that exhibits several firsts in the 1880s reproduction town—first even in world:

• World’s steepest drop on a wood coaster, more than 16 stories high with a near vertical drop of 162 feet at 81 degrees.
• World’s only wood coaster to twist upside down in a record-breaking three inversions including a 720-degree (double) barrel roll.
• Second fastest wood coaster in the world at a top speed of 68 mph. Outlaw Run is the world’s faster wood coaster on steel wheels.

In keeping with Silver Dollar City’s highly awarded theme development, the designs of Outlaw Run complete a story line with real history in mind. In the creative concept, Outlaw Run goes beyond the outskirts of the safe haven of the 1880s Silver Dollar City to an imaginary place where civility wanes and outlaws lurk. Passengers, setting out with the brave new dreams of vast America, board the Western Missouri Stagecoach Company where at any moment the travel is treacherous and a wild chase could ensue.

Thomas says in describing the story that goes along with a theme of the 1800s, “All generations will enjoy this bold and daring ride where the ‘good guys’ always win, leaving the ‘bad guys’ in the dust.”

The new ride takes advantage of the natural mountain terrain with a 10-story lift that leads to that 16-story drop into a valley. Custom-designed “stagecoach” trains, fashioned after the iconic Concord stagecoaches of the 1800s, take riders on a journey of the unexpected with sudden drops, thrilling twists, and rolling inversions. Riders will soar through nine locations where they will experience “airtime,” or the sensation of weightlessness.

Outlaw Run joins a lineup of popular coaster rides such as the multi-looping steel coaster WildFire and the launch coaster PowderKeg. Silver Dollar City Attractions collaborated with Idaho-based Rocky Mountain Construction on the innovating engineering, design, and construction of the new ride. Minimum height requirement for riders is 48 inches.

Outlaw Run was designed to utilize and preserve the natural landscape with two or more trees planted for every one removed during construction.
